What makes this side exciting is the fact that Hithcock, Noonan, Venning, Carey and Scott Collings are all Under 17. If you include Shannon Snook who would have been captain of the U/17s this year, but has played U/19s all year it adds for a great future for the club.
Carey, Venning and Scott Collings are actually still U/16 players. The U/17s will be lucky to see them next year. Sam Venning doesn't turn 16 until October and Carey just turned 16 in August. Alex Carey also made the state U/16 side and was picked for an AIS scholarship.

Go 19s!

How many of these lads are a chance for future SANFL A grade or higher honours?

Hitchcock is an absolute freak in front of goal and is highly rated, will come down to size and his attitude if he wants to make it. Noonan is a solid player who must work on his disposal. Both these boys will be doing Year 12 at SH next year.
Venning is a solid player who has improved greatly in his toughness. Has a nice leg on him and plays in the backline.
The two standouts are Daniel Scott-Collings who is an indigenous player with natural ability and speed. Once he bulks up he could be AFL bound. Alex Carey has to make a decision between cricket and football. Has great hands and disposal. Just needs to improve his pace. Obviously highly rated to get an AIS scholarship when he only played a game and a 1/4 in the U/16 championships before being injured.

I wonder how this compares to other clubs. I presume most U19 teams would have a fair sprinkling of U17 players?

Westies only had 1 U/17 last week being Slattery. All of the other U/19 finals sides are playing very few if any U/17 players. Remember our reserve side has quite a few u/19 players in it and both Holmes and Guilhaus are U/19 in the league side this week.

Thanks figjammer. :)

Is that because we have less depth than other clubs, or are these younger players that good that they demand to be picked in higher grades?
