Reserves record score from 1970

If anyone on here has not seen my Grade Records thread on SAFooty, I'm going back through the years and collating the grades scores. I'm doubtful that the club record score from where I am at (1970) was surpassed before this, but of course I can't be sure that's the case. This score was in 2005 against Norwood:

Round 17 2005
Glenelg 9.1 17.2 23.9 32.12 (204)
Norwood 2.2 4.5 5.8 7.9 (51)

It is also the highest score kicked against Norwood Reserves from 1970.

The previous highest score against Norwood was 32.7 (199) against 8.11 (59) in Round 10 1987. Here are a list of the top 10 highest score by Glenelg Reserves:

Something like that was always gonna happen, was Sudjai's first game back from suspension, Kirky was in the magoos, I think maybe Rodge had been dropped (?) and Norwood were carrying a lot of injuries.


the coach of Norwood that year ended up the Bays magoos coach the year after (Paul Sandercock)

The league team had a come from behind* win on the same day, was the TV game and we all had a cuddle* with the players on the fence after the game.

Young son was then aged 7, was with me the whole day, from the start of Reserves to the end of the league game. I'd taped the game, we drove home, he ignored his Mum when he walked in the door (not a good thing) and watched the whole replay from start to finish.

He ended up watching that game half a dozen times, may even be the day he fell in love with the GFC, thinking about it now....

This will probably rank in the top 5 most pointless posts on this august forum, but here goes...

That game above was Adrian Battisons last game for the club two notable highlights from it are:

Batto streaming into goal to seal the game he turns waves his fist in jubilation to the Edward Rix stand and slots it through........

At half time though he provided another funny moment for the trainers, he came off the ground complaining of a sore back so we rubbed some Metsal (deep heat) into it and away he went....next minute he comes flying back into the trainers room in agony, the silly bastard had kept on sweating and the metsal started to run down his back in between "the cheeks" and into "the crack". Needless to say tears were rolling down his cheeks (facial) as we doused him in powder to stop the sweat running into his arse.....

I 'spose you had to be there.....

The league played the second game of the double header at Footy Park...Pepe Fusco's debut.....

He went around to the players and asked things like: Were you on Sudjai Cook? Yes? Well he had 35 possessions, so you didn't do a very good job.

By the way, it wasn't the best Reserves team on paper that we have had in the last few years, it was just that everything clicked on the day.

The previous highest score against Norwood was 32.7 (199) against 8.11 (59) in Round 10 1987.

That day the League won by 100 as well; the game was at Norwood and the following weeke we smashed the scum by 97 in the league; oh, happy days!
