Second round of finals 2011

Postby Pseudo » Mon Sep 19, 2011 2:03 pm

All aboard!

Details pinched from SAfooty:

Saturday 24 September
Reserves 2nd Semi: Glenelg v Norwood @ Alberton 11.25
Reserves 1st Semi: Port v Central @ Richmond 11.25
18s Second Semi: Port v Glenelg @ Richmond 2.10
18s First Semi: Norwood v North @ Alberton 2.10

How nice of the SANFL to schedule our two sides at different ovals. Port's reserves lost last week, as did Norwood's 18s, yet these clubs get rewarded by having their games scheduled together. Glenelg's reserves were minor premier and 18s won last week - yet the Bays get the logistical issues of playing at different ovals and splitting support. Seriously SANFL, WTF?

.... and will Kris Massie take up the reins of the ressies for the remainder of the season?

You can blame a Glenelg official who suggested this configuration to Matthew Duldig in the best interests of the SANFL overall, as any other configuration would see two clubs (Norwood and Port) have to play at two grounds. Although they didn't take up this person's suggestion to play the games at two closer ovals (eg Woodville and Alberton if they are available) and start the first game earlier and the second game later to enable people to get to the second game in time, which is what they did in a similar situation a few years ago.

Lucky the club still has the old club van and didnt trade it in
18s may have had to use Bunga's stationwagon to get their gear to the ground otherwise

Norwood had the benefit of two games at the same locale last week and we've had it plenty of other times, plus - notwithstanding that Glenelg is pre-eminent and therefore BBSB all challengers - it makes more sense to disadvantage one club than two.

I agree they could have tried to find closer gounds, but it's not THAT far to Richmond from scumland and at least on the way back to the club to celebrate after. I'll be doing my best to see as much of both games as I can.

The draw is purely a result of not wanting to have Port play at Alberton and bing locked in to sing Richmand and Alberton. Keeps the cricket clubs happy and avoids playing on small ovals.

Pretty crap for Glenelg supporters though when they should be playing a double header. I dont think it will harm the 18's though. I will back em to win by more than 5 goals

I blame Metcalf, since our Reseves were walking on water before Mass was forced up.

And I also blame the goose who was responsible for programming our 18s and reserves at separate ovals.

According to SAfooty, Bays are 10 points down at half time of U/18s. Could be a Bays double header next week :|
