Reserves Round 1A v Woeful Adelaide

Postby Tiger Couple » Sat Mar 29, 2014 3:23 am

Glenelg - 6.5 - 12.11 - 19.6 - 24.19. 163
West - 0.1 - 1.1 - 1.2 - 2.4.16

Goal Kickers & Best Players from SANFL Website
Goal Kickers - Hancock 6, Proud, H. Gill 3, McFarlane, Spriggs, Nicholson 2, Carger, Earl, Gamble, Underwood, J. Pitt 1.
Best - Hancock, Carger, Earl, J.Pitt, Miller.

This was up there with the most woeful displays of football I have seen. West would have had the ball in their half for maybe 20% of the game. We did as we pleased for the entire night. If you had to pick one bad thing our kicking for goal was poor as a lot of the points were kicked we're very lockable shots at goal.

Hancock was very lively and just seems to float and hang in the air when in a marking contest. Jake Pitt seems like he will be a very useful player. Has the pace and tank to play midfield, but also has the height to play forward and back and take a good grab.

Scott Spriggs seems to have bulked up a bit but has not lost any pace at all.

Harrison Gill was used for a lot of the game up forward.

We seem to have a lot of runners and are a quick side. Young Josh Miller rucked well and seems to have come of age and tool some nice marks.

Massive win margin wise, but against woeful opposition I'm not sure how much we can take from this win as we simply out muscled and out ran West and did what we wanted.

Piss weak bays. You let the opposition double its score in the final term :)

One of the completest demolitions I've seen in a while ... 43 scoring shots to 6 tells the story.

Our boys were very, very good but West were atrocious.

Handy percentage at 91.06%

gringo, a bit harsh. tiger Couple writes terrific match opinions for many games on this site and has done so for years. And reading his post he was very positive about our performance I really look forward to his contributions on this site, much better than the time wasting dribble that I always do :)

Assuming you were at the oval, what ways have we improved in the reserves team this year? Will this flow through to the senior side? What did you like that you saw? Who was your best players? Who nd oils have done better?

Or will we win every match by 20 goals?

One thing that stood out for me (apart from the thumping win) was that the game plan seemed to be essentially the same in the reserves and league.

Coming off last year's finals campaign a very strong start.

Notwithstanding the success, the focus should be on developing league players, able to slot in and make a difference, and to develop as footballers.

Pleasing start to a season.

gringo,
what was it with tc's post that made you post this ?

from what i can gather Westies had players in that reserves team that basically hasn't trained with the squad & were given a chance to show what they can do seeing they had a dozen or so players out of the league team..................as for how many games a bloke plays or doesn't play means nothing, everyone can have an opinion & thoughts on the game & how it should be played, coached & so on, just remember you don't have to be a murderer to write a murder novel

as for the ''worst game ever seen'' quip i presume tc means as a contest because it wasn't a contest, it was a training drill & the boys did what they had to to win
