January 22, 2020 - GFCW SEASON PREVIEW

There will be a new face wearing the famous number 5 in 2020, with Chelsea Packer being named GFCW skipper ahead of this year's SANFL Statewide Super Women's League Season.

Packer will take over the reigns from veteran Cass Hartley, who has captained the side since its inagural season in 2017. Supporting her in the role will be a new-look leadership group, consisting of Jordana Bradley (Vice-Captain), Ellie Kellock (Deputy Vice-Captain) Emily Woods and Cass Hartley who will remain in the group for the 2020 season.

2020 COACHING PANEL FINALISED

A new-look coaching panel will guide the Tigers in 2020, with two new additions to the team to assist Senior Coach Jason Fairall in his third year in charge. Former Salisbury women's coach Richard Gray joins the panel alongside Braedon Talbot, who joins the Bays with experience from Port Adelaide's Indigenous Community Program.

Returning assistants Tammy Scott and Ang Moritz round out the 2020 coaching panel.

JASON FAIRALL RE-SIGNS

In more good news, The Club has locked away GFCW Senior Coach Jason Fairall on a two-year deal that will see him remain at the Club until at least the end of 2021.

"It's exciting to see the club show their faith in me. It validates what we've being doing and the growth and development we've been seeing." Fairall said.

"It gives us a lot of confidence moving forward that we can continue to execute our plans."

With just over three weeks until the 2020 season kicks off, Fairall has a firm eye on round one has been impressed by some of the new talent injected into the group.

"We don't look at what we achieved last year, we start from scratch this season and we want to make our own history again this year." Fairall said.

"We'll bring the grit, we'll bring the grind, and the rest will take care of itself."

The Tigers open their 2020 Statewide Super Women's League campaign against North Adelaide at Elizabeth on Friday February 15.

not great
North Adelaide began life under new coach Krissie Steen in impressive fashion, chalking up a 24-point win against Glenelg at X Convenience Oval on Saturday.

With the South Adelaide premiership mentor at the helm for the first time, the Roosters broke free of the Tigers with a strong second quarter performance.

Trailing by four points at the first change, North piled on 4.4 while holding the Bays scoreless to earn a comfortable four-goal buffer at half-time.

Last year’s SANFLW leading goalkicker, Kelly Barltrop, booted two of the Roosters goals in the match-defining period, with Hannah Ewings and Cristie Castle also getting in on the act.

Castle’s goal put the icing on a dominant display from the experienced utility, who also tallied a match-high 17 disposals, six marks and five clearances.

Diminutive left-footer Lauren Daniel was also instrumental with her 14 possessions while Adrienne Davies and Katelyn Pope had 13 each for North.

North ruck Bek Rasheed, the daughter of Roosters premiership great Mick Redden, finished with seven disposals, 14 hitouts and three clearances in her SANFLW debut.

Inaccurate kicking in front of goal stifled the Bays’ valiant attempt to drag their way back into the contest, booting 1.5 in the third quarter as North managed just one major courtesy of recruit Tayla Gordon.

But Tigers coach Jason Fairall will take plenty of heart from his side winning several key statistic categories such as scoring shots, disposals, tackles, hitouts and clearances.

Samantha Franson continued on from her impressive 2019 campaign to register a team-high 16 disposals and six tackles for Glenelg while Madisyn Freeman and Lucy Earl finished with 14 and 13 respectively
