SOME Glenelg youngsters earned a fantastic opportunity to represent their state at the recent National Under 18 Carnival in front of the watchful eyes of AFL recruiters.

Three players in particular in Hayden Jolly, Alex Carey and Craig Pitt have thrust their names high on these recruiters’ wishlists.

Hayden Jolly is a dynamic midfielder/forward who had a fantastic carnival. He was the leading possession winner for SA averaging over 21 possessions per game.

He is a ball magnet, very skilful with a great football brain. He has been super consistent for Glenelg and is touted as a possible selection for the new Gold Coast franchise.

Alex Carey also had a very fruitful carnival. He was a high possession winner in the midfield for SA and regularly got first hands out of stoppages.

He has silky skills with excellent disposal by foot.

Alex has been invited to attend the National Draft Camp in Canberra and has been playing really well for the Glenelg Under 18 team as well as the Glenelg Reserves.

Craig Pitt rounds off this talented trio. He is also a midfielder like the other two and has a great work ethic along with a strong aerial presence.

He divides his football time between commitments to his college football and that of the Glenelg Football Club.

He is an excellent decision maker on-field and a very versatile player.

I was lucky enough to have all three boys join me at work as part of a work placement component of their school curriculum.

Throughout their time the boys were extremely courteous, hardworking and were willing to learn.

They showed great initiative and handled themselves with perfect aplomb. Not only are they terrific footballers but fantastic young men and we wish them all the best for the future.

Hopefully they remember us when they’re famous!
